What is death?
How often we hear that a young man killed in a car accident, a father takes his last breath, and a mother dies in hospital, a sister with cancer and a brother in a car accident. Death is a relentless foe. It hunt’s unless he has each one of us in its grasp. Our cemetery testifies that our battle with a death is a losing one. Death always wins. And death is coming for you.
Are you ready to go where death takes you?
Some believes that nothing happens to us when we die we just seize to exist. But some believes that there is heaven and everyone goes there.
Still other believes that there is God, who will judge man according to his works. And allow good into heaven and sending the bad to hell.
Are any of these views are correct?
How can we know?
Where can we turn for answers?
There are many in the world who believes that the Bible is the word of God and considered its writings sacred. But sadly not many are aware of this most important subject, “DEATH”.
Why should we consider the Bible point of view?
Many prophesy in the Bible already been fulfilled.
Such the fall of God’s people Israel, Deuteronomy 28:64
The Bible takes its place in earliest recorded writings. And this book has given comfort to billion in every age. This book has life transforming power. People have died for the word and the message in this book.
And finally we believe the Bible is the very words of God.
What does the Bible say about DEATH?
Does it have any answers?
Interestingly the Bible tell us a lot about death.
We find death in the first chapter of the Bible, “But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:17
And in the final chapters, “He twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.” Revelation 21:8
The Bible has BAD NEWS and GOOD NEWS about death.
Let us consider the bad news first.
Do you think death is natural?
But the Bible says the death is not natural. God did not intend man to die. The death is curse on man because of rebellion against God. God gave man in a perfect state but man rebelled against God.
If we take 10 commandments as basis of God’s standard of righteousness we quickly that each one of us guilty of some our most of these commandments. God said in 10 commandments, do not make idols, do not commit idolatry, do not lie, cheat and kill etc.
Many people believe that there are big sins and small sins. As long as you don’t kill anyone you would go to heaven. Unfortunately that’s not the Bible teaches. Ezk 18:20, “The one who sins is the one who will die”. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Bad news about death is it’s the result of sin. But it’s get worst. Rom 5:12, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned”.
Man die physically and there is a coming judgement because of sin in which man will be sent to spiritual in the place the Bible called the LAKE OF FIRE.
Heb 9:27, “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment”. “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practise magic arts, the idolaters and all liars – they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.” Rev 21:8 Do you believe that?
The death we see around the world is not the end but it certainly testifies God means what He says.
God has eternal torment for sinners.
Based on what we have seen so far do you believe that you are a sinner. Why don’t you examine yourself and ask yourself you could be in danger of God’s coming judgement.
Do you believe that you are a sinner?
There is a remedy for all of us.
Now we come to the good news and we also call it the gospel.
What is the good news?
Having consider the sobering subject of death, we need some good news.
The good news is that God loves men, woman and children so much that he took the penalty of sin upon himself. He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world you and I sin but He never sinned. He is Holy, Perfect, Pure and without sin. Even His enemies couldn’t find fault in Him. Because He was perfect His death was undeserved. It was sub statutory sacrifice.
He died in your place.
He died the death that we should have died.
People sacrifice animal today, we find people offering animal sacrifices to appease there God. They believed that someone or someone else can die in there stead. But the news get better.
Jesus died a horrific and painful death and put in grave and rose again. After his resurrection he was seen by multitude of people to testify to the fact that He is ALIVE.
1-Cor 15:3-8, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.”
Do you believe that Jesus died and rose again for my sin?
Friends, are you tired of your sin?
Have you ever wanted to be clean from all your sins?
Does death and what lies beyond frightened you?
You can have peace with God today because JESUS CHRSIT DIED IN YOUR PLACE.
That is the meaning of the term gospel or good news.
That is the good news that Jesus Christ offers pardon/forgiveness for sinners.
His desire to forgive you and give you a new start on life.
Throw yourself on God’s mercy.
Lean on Jesus for pardon.
Openly confess your sins to God and ask for mercy.
Plead his forgiveness on the basis what Jesus Christ did for you.
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:28-29
